Abstract: This paper analyzes the apropriation processes that took place at Los Héroes monument during the National Strike in Colombia in 2021. Firstly, through an iconographic analysis the material, political and symbolic dimensions, as well as its design, cultural significance, and relation with power are examined. This research unveals how the Monument changed its nature, from an urban element to a historical document during the National Strike. Secondly, it explains from a symbolic point of view the revolutionary transformation that the Monument experienced while the popular demostrations were taking place. Thirdly, it analyzes the government's attempt to recover the traditional nationalistic narrative through the demoliton of the Monument –while challenging the social movement of the Monument. Finally, this research emphasises the tension between the traditional idea of heritage as a static past and a renewed perspective that conceive it as an expression connected to a present in permanent evolution.
