Latin American Democracies Monitor
This project collects and analyses data on Latin American democratic performance through global indices of democracy. Given that indices on democracy represent a relatively new phenomenon, the project focuses on four primary datasets. Firstly, the Democracy Index (from 2008) provides a four-category regimes' classification. Secondly, the V-Dem index also classifies regimes into four categories—both prioritising liberal democracy as an advanced political regime. Thirdly, the Global State of Democracy analyses liberal democracy using four comprehensive variables: representation, rights, rule of law, and participation. Finally, the Rule of Law index provides an interesting approach to democracy from liberal constitutionalism.
